Each year, Working Mother magazine publishes its list of Working Mother 100 Best Companies. The list, which is based on an extensive application completed by each company, highlights companies that offer family-friendly policies to their employees and actively encourage their employees to use them.
The application includes detailed questions about the workforce, compensation, child-care and flexibility programs, leave policies and more. Working Mother magazine also seeks information on the usage, availability and tracking of programs, as well as the accountability of managers who oversee them.
Seven areas are measured and scored: workforce profile, compensation, child care, flexibility, time off and leaves, family-friendly programs and company culture.
The company profiles, culled from the applications' data, reflect 2005 programs. For this year's 100 best companies, the magazine's editors gave particular weight to flexible scheduling and time-off policies.
