A total of 4.3 million worksite injuries and illnesses occurred in 2004, a drop of 100,000 from the previous year, according to the latest figures available from the U.S. Department of Labor.
Of the 4.3 million incidents, the overwhelming majority -- 4.0 million -- were injuries. By industry, 2.7 million or 68 percent of those injuries occurred in service-providing organizations while 1.3 million or 32 percent of the injuries occurred in goods-producing industries.
The report on occupational safety and health statistics in 2004 also includes information on some Web-based tools for organizations to compute their own injury and illness incidence rates as well as access data by industry, demographic characteristics and case characteristics.
