Jeff Pfeffer is the most iconoclastic HR academic, which means he is constantly tearing the clothes off conventional wisdom, slaying shibboleths and coming to new conclusions about business and HR that are based on research and not the gut.

He is a named professor of Organizational Behavior at the Stanford Business School, where he’s taught for 36 years. A prolific popular writer, as well as an academic one, Jeff has authored or co-authored 14 books. His last was simply called Power, a class he teaches at Stanford. His new one has the best-selling title Leadership BS: Fixing Workplaces and Careers, One Truth at a Time.

Jeff was a columnist for Business 2.0 and is now a blogger for Fortune. And Fortune pays him, in contrast to what so often happens at Forbes. He believes in the famous H.L. Mencken dictum: “Only blockheads and dilettantes write for free.”

Jeff will range widely on the show: From the self-promoting operating style of some CEO’s to how your job may be killing you and his vivisection of the multi-billion dollar leadership development industry.

Jeffrey Pfeffer is the Thomas D. Dee II Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Stanford Graduate School of Business where he has taught since 1979.  The topics of his books include power in organizations, managing people, evidence-based management and The Knowing-Doing Gap.  His latest book, Leadership B.S. will be published in September, 2015.  Author of more than 150 articles and book chapters, Pfeffer has won numerous awards for his scholarly research, including an Honorary Doctorate from Tilburg University in The Netherlands.

Pfeffer has taught seminars in 38 countries and has been a visiting professor at Harvard Business School, London Business School, Singapore Management University, and IESE in Barcelona.  Pfeffer has served on the board of directors of several HCM software companies as well as other public and non-profit boards.

Pfeffer’s most recent research concerns the effects of management practices on human health, the consequences of economic evaluation or time and social relationships, and a critique of the leadership literature.
