Manufacturer Implements Payroll and Workforce Management in Record Time . . . in the Cloud!

Nipro Glass Americas is a vertically integrated supplier of glass-tubing packaging solutions and services. Its offerings range from glass vials and glass ampoules to glass tubes for conversion into vials and prefilled syringes. The Challenge

On May 3, 2011, Amcor Rigid Plastics announced the sale of its Amcor Glass Tubing business to Nipro Corp., one of the world's largest manufacturers of medical devices. The sale was finalized on July 25, 2011. The new company -- Nipro Glass Americas Corp. -- had to process its first payroll by Aug. 2.

NGA's plants are not only physically separated, but each facility employs workforces with different scheduling and compliance requirements. Separate compliance and other organizational requirements (including two plants that have unions and two that have bargaining units) must be accounted for in the payroll and time-and-attendance solution. In addition, the new company wanted to take advantage of new SaaS technologies and avoid the extra time and cost required to implement traditional client-server payroll and workforce-management solutions.

The Solution

Amcor Rigid Plastics had used a client-server application to manage its time-and-attendance requirements and recommended the continued use of that application to the new company, NGA.

But, after careful review of the top workforce-management and payroll solutions, NGA made the decision to work with Ceridian. Ceridian's SaaS, integrated solutions and award-winning customer service meant NGA had the technology and support it needed to meet its payroll processing deadline of Aug. 2. Ceridian Dayforce's state-of-the-art workforce-management solution could also be configured to meet the complex, differing workforce, scheduling and compliance needs of NGA's five manufacturing facilities.

Because Ceridian Dayforce Workforce Management is a SaaS solution, NGA did not need to purchase expensive hardware or hire the information-technology professionals required to support it. The integrated, comprehensive solution implemented in the cloud allowed the new company to leverage Ceridian's expertise and be up and running with payroll and complex workforce-management solutions in record time.
