"Childhood obesity is a growing problem in the United States, and its causes and consequences are extensive," according to Childhood Obesity: It's Everyone's Business from the National Business Group on Health.
"Schools, child care facilities, communities and families have all contributed to the problem and all must contribute to its resolution," it states. "Health care providers and employers also have roles to play as part of a comprehensive solution. Therefore, it is clear that childhood obesity is everyone's business!"
The NBGH has also put together an employer checklist that provides some strategies to combat childhood obesity, including healthcare-plan design, educational activities and other tools that can be leveraged by employers.
