The Department of Labor's 2012 proposed budget includes several mentions of its multi-agency misclassification initiative, which is designed to strengthen and coordinate federal and state efforts to enforce labor violations that result from the misclassification of employees as "independent contractors" and to deter such violations in the future.

The attached excerpt from the DOL's proposed budget includes more detailed information on its initiative as it relates to the Wage and Hour Division, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and federal and state unemployment insurance programs.
