RHR International recently completed a year-long research project investigating the hurdles leaders typically face when they are promoted from within.
And, contrary to popular opinion, the study found that such individuals do not have a distinct advantage over those hired from the outside. Instead, the research finds, these executives face challenges of their own.
The study also determined there were six key success factors that can lead to smoother, more successful transitions:
* Role clarity and alignment,
* Re-contracting and building relationships,
* Adapting to a sub-culture,
* Early wins,
* Accelerated learning and
* Targeted development.
The strategies are explored more in-depth in the executive summary.
