Amcor Rigid Plastics USA Inc. delivers a wide range of packaging solutions to a variety of markets and industries in the United States, Canada and overseas. Amcor provides unique packaging solutions for bottled water, soft drinks, personal-care items, fruit juices, solid-food products, liquor and many other products.
With numerous manufacturing operations in several foreign countries, Amcor is the world's largest container supplier. With 2,200 employees throughout the United States and a very lean HR staff, Amcor does not have the personnel or the expertise to respond to all of the complex needs of its diverse, geographically dispersed workforce.
As early as 2000, the company realized that, in order to meet all of its HR needs, it needed to outsource some of its HR work to a capable vendor. Amcor was looking for a partner that could address its core need to competently process payroll. But it also needed a vendor that could assist with its benefits management and tax-filing efforts.
In addition, Amcor wanted a vendor with the flexibility to grow its HR activities and solutions as Amcor's size and needs changed.
Amcor has been using several Ceridian applications since 2001. Today, the company uses Ceridian's HRIS, benefits management, payroll processing, tax filing, self-service, TALX, Trial Payroll Reporting and Ceridian's Health & Productivity EAP solutions.
Joe Zakrajsek, Amcor's senior manager of compensation and benefits, recognizes the value of outsourcing these activities.
"From a strategic standpoint, outsourcing allows us to focus on other initiatives and to implement other cost savings that more than offset the expense of partnering with an outside expert," he says.
Zakrajsek also recognizes the expertise and knowledge of best practices and HR improvements that can become part of Amcor's HR efforts when it partners with a knowledgeable provider.
"Our current Ceridian account executive provides great assistance and identifies many creative solutions due to her knowledge of the HR marketplace and Ceridian's solutions," he says. "We're increasingly relying on her knowledge of best practices and expect to see a huge increase in HR capabilities within the system and within the partnership."
Perhaps just as importantly, Ceridian is the kind of company that focuses on customers and their needs. Ceridian uses a variety of efforts to reach out to its customers. Amcor recognized those efforts as similar to its own customer-focused value.
"Recently, some of Ceridian's senior management came on site to meet with some of our senior leaders," says Zakrajsek. "Observing that kind of customer attentiveness helped our leaders have greater confidence in Ceridian."
While Amcor was kicking off its own customer-value strategy, Ceridian was enhancing its customer-loyalty journey.
"It's really been a positive development for our organization," says Zakrajsek. "And of course, it is good to know we're partnering with a company that shares a key strategic perspective with us. There's real alignment there.
"I would recommend Ceridian because of its strong focus on the customer; through customer advisory boards, listening to the voice of the customer and related activities," he continues. "Ceridian's account executives also provide Amcor with a strong strategic partnership. For these and other reasons, it is very evident Ceridian's focus on the customer is a key strategic direction."
The Bottom Line
