Gearing Up for the New Year
HR professionals list the business goals they want to work toward this year, as well as some personal choices for 2006's favorite TV show, vacation spots and more.

About seven in 10 HR professionals made a resolution when the clock struck midnight on New Year's Eve. If past practice is any indicator, more than half of them will accomplish their goals.
That's according to a recent survey of about 1,500 HR professionals by Halogen Software, which explored HR's favorite things.
Some of the professional goals adopted by HR professionals for accomplishment in 2007 include:
* Get office organized/reduce paperwork;
* Streamline work;
* Improve performance appraisals;
* Improve self training and organizational training; and
* Relax and have more fun.
Cell phones and BlackBerries came in first and second as HR's "favorite gadgets" -- the same as the previous year -- and the better to stay in touch with work. On the personal side, MP3 players and iPods came in third.
Most of the survey topics referred to HR's personal side, focusing on vacation spots, TV shows and favorite foods, among other topics. Here are the 2006 year-end results:
Favorite leisure activity: Reading a good book, followed by golf and shopping.
Favorite food: Chocolate, followed by pizza.
Favorite beverage: Ice tea, followed by water, wine and beer.
Favorite sports teams: Green Bay Packers, Cincinnati Bengals and N.Y. Yankees.
Favorite TV show: Grey's Anatomy, followed by Lost, CSI and The Office
Favorite travel destination: Hawaii, followed by France.
Favorite TV or movie personality: Johnny Depp, followed by Brad Pitt.
Dream car: BMW, followed by Mustang.
Favorite holiday -- or time of year: Christmas, followed by Thanksgiving and Halloween.
