What Attendees Thought
As attendees at the 9th Annual HR Technology ConferenceŽ jammed the conference's Expo area to sample the wares of the 215 exhibitors on display, Web Editor Anne Freedman asked a number of them to describe an interesting thing they'd heard during the show. Below are some of the responses.
Richard Gurgul
Vice President, Compensation and Benefits
Cole Taylor Bank
Rosemont, Ill.
I like taking the holistic look at the software instead of having pieces or five or six different interfaces [as was discussed during the breakout session "Hess Corporation Hopes to Strike Oil with a Talent Management Suite"].

Antoinette Shuba
Director of HRIS
PF Chang's China Bistro
Scottsdale, Ariz.
I was really impressed with the way [Brian Bohling, senior vice president of HR for Hess Corp.] spoke about Authoria [in "Hess Corporation Hopes to Strike Oil with a Talent Management Suite"]. ... Typically, [these types of implementations] are usually painful and you have trouble with the partnership. I can see they worked together well.

Bob Driscoll
Manager, Technology and Governance
Motorola
Schaumburg, Ill.
The [breakout session "Hot New Technologies for HR"]: It showed blogging and how that might relate to recruiting activities where you could get the Gen Y group to come and learn about your company. They did some blogging demonstrations ... and orientation stuff using games.

Mark Stricker
Director, HR Systems
Career Education Corp.
Hoffman Estates, Ill.
I thought the keynote speaker [Stanford University Professor Jeffrey Pfeffer] was awesome, [especially] ... the items having to do with stock options and how there's a reverse correlation between handing out stock options -- how management sometimes perceives that as being a real benefit and employees don't really see it as a benefit.

Kellie Brumback
HR Generalist/HRIS
Fidelity Bank
Wichita, Kansas
The hot technology session ... The use of blogging is really foreign to me, but interesting.

Bryan Lee
Director, HR
Crowley Maritime Corp.
Jacksonville, Fla.
Most of the information on business-process outsourcing, I think, has been excellent. I am doing a study for my company on that very subject. Between the breakout sessions and the panel this morning ["The Truth About HR BPO: Promises, Gaps and Solutions"], it was just a wealth of information.
