Interesting article ... I would challenge you on the percentage of idea thefts you claim in your article.
Ideas tend to spring up in an organization in multiple places almost simultaneously. Especially within the individuals who are all privy to the same information.
Many of the best ideas are the simplest. These in particular are generated by multiple individuals and groups.
I think we need to be careful not to punish the "idea thieves" without careful consideration ... I have also found that the so-called thieves are often the individuals who are able to develop a project and drive it home while the "victims" of this theft tend to be the colleagues who want to swim in their lanes, not put in the hard work and long hours to develop these ideas but want a gold star at the end of the day for their brilliance.
Given what I've just unloaded I'm sure it's easy to see that my belief is that the real value is in the person who can lead a team to implement a project within scope, time and budget ... not the person who sits back, feeling rejected, claiming they thought of it first.
