Mary Barra

Vice President of Global Human Resources
General Motors

Mary Barra was named vice president of global human resources at General Motors in Detroit.

Barra previously served as the automaker's vice president of global manufacturing engineering, since 2008.

She began her GM career in 1980 as a co-op student at the Pontiac division and has served in a number of engineering, manufacturing, management and communications positions. She was appointed executive director of vehicle manufacturing engineering in 2004.

She graduated from Kettering University with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

In 1988, Barra received a GM fellowship to the Stanford Graduate School of Business and in 1990 graduated with a master's degree in business administration.
