According to Korn Ferry's Real World Leadership global study that surveyed 7,500 executives earlier this year:
* 17 percent are confident they have the right talent in place to execute on the organization's business objectives. Among the reasons cited is that development is not starting early enough in their employees' careers.
* 55 percent rank their return on leadership-development programs as only "fair" to "very poor." If they could start over, they would throw out about half of these programs.
* 32 percent stated the lack of executive sponsorship was the top barrier to successful implementation of successful leadership development. This was followed by lack of budget (26 percent), lack of alignment among stakeholders (26 percent), lack of delivery resources (14 percent) and lack of technology (2 percent).
